Tone of Voice Tuesday – refreshingly different – Vimto

Can you remember your first hot Vimto?

Mine was aboard the Albatross (a North Sea Clipper ship) moored in Wells-Next-the-Sea during a glamping weekend in mid-November 2009. I remember it vividly. It was such a cold day. The kind that turns your face blue. A mug of hot Vimto defrosted me right down to my toes. Since then it’s been my winter tipple that makes me feel like a five year old drinking sweets, just because. And now it’s tone of voice gives me a warm fuzzy feeling too. We all know Cup a Soup’s ‘hug in a mug’ line but Vimto’s invitation to ‘Get snug with a hot mug’ quite simply is all I need by way of persuasion this week (anyone else cold?).

And their tone flows through to their website effortlessly, with lots of fun sections dedicated to flavours, heritage and celebrating our differences. With lines like ‘the journey of discovery is all part of the fun’ it’s an open invitation to swap your fancy coffees for a nostalgic treat that’ll take you straight back to your childhood. Their voice encourages you to ‘find your different’ …it has its own page. It’s small but joyous with statement sentences like this one:

‘We believe the world is better with more different in it, and that the potential for this (whether big or small) is in all of us.’

I don’t know about you, but that’s brightened my day.

What’s that? Is that a whistle you hear? Yes it’s my kettle steaming old-school style and the hot Vimto is on it’s way.
